The providers and staff of Silvestri & Comfort Family Dentistry are pleased to be able to offer preventive dental services to every age group and every member of your family. Prevention and education are very important in our practice, which is why we offer a wide range of services to meet the needs of your family. Below is an explanation of the services we offer… Regular prophylaxis (prophy/cleaning): These important appointments allow our doctors and hygienists to monitor your oral health and clean under your gum line where the toothbrush cannot reach. They also help promote healthy gums and teeth by removing the plaque and tarter that can cause decay and gum infection, while educating you about your oral health. Fluoride treatments: Fluoride is an important component of dental health in that fluoride helps to strengthen the enamel on your teeth, making it more difficult for cavities to begin. It is recommended to have fluoride treatments applied every six months at your prophy appointment. Sealants: Sealants are a protective resin placed on the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. The resin is bonded into the pits and grooves of the teeth acting as a barrier, protecting the enamel from plaque and acid. Ideally, sealants are placed on children’s permanent molars as they erupt before they have a chance to decay. Adults can also benefit from sealants as well provided the teeth do not show evidence of decay. As long as the sealant remains intact, the tooth surface will be protected. Applied correctly, sealants hold up well under the force of normal chewing and can last several years. During your regular prophy appointments following placement, the doctor and hygienist will check on the condition of the sealants to maximize the prevention of decay. Oral cancer screenings: Did you know that an estimated 7,500 people will die of oral cancer in a year? Oral cancer screenings are a routine part of your dental exam. Regular exams of your entire mouth are essential in the early detection of cancerous and pre-cancerous conditions. Knowing the risk factors, the early signs and seeing your dentist for screenings can help prevent this deadly disease. We are truly committed to the prevention and early detection of oral cancer with our knowledge and technology. Periodontal exams: Periodontal (gum) disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in the United States. It is possible to have periodontal disease and have no warning signs, which is why we will examine your gum tissues to insure that gum disease is detected in its early stages when it is in reversible form. Good oral hygiene is essential to keep periodontal disease from becoming serious or recurring. We take the health of your gum and bone tissues seriously to give you a lifetime of healthy smiles. Caries exams: During this visual examination, we locate areas of decay on the chewing surfaces and in between the teeth. The doctors use both clinical exams and x-ray findings to determine the most conservative treatment plan for your dental needs. |
