Diode Laser: The Odyssey diode laser is dentistry’s most user-friendly soft tissue laser to date. With a simplified control panel, it allows the doctor to use it with an accurate power output and a consistent wavelength for a smooth, precise and clean procedure. The laser creates an intense beam of light energy that moves through a fiber optic cord. When it enters the targeted tissue, the energy is converted into heat as a result of the tissue’s pigmentation.
The primary use of a soft tissue laser is the modification or removal of intra-oral soft tissue. The effects of the laser’s energy allow the doctor to modify tissue and to control the area. The post-operative response of the laser treatment will usually produce a cleaner and healthier site with less discomfort when compared to alternative methods. Additional benefits of the laser are the ability to treat deep gingival pockets that harbor bacteria causing gum disease and to reduce the pain and longevity of cold sores.
